Our Holiday Rental Accomodation in the Cretan Countryside

Lets look at the accommodation. There is the new Stone Cottage (purpose-built) and the Studio (renovated original stone house) to choose from - both aimed at couples.

Both cottages are built and finished to a very high standard using local, natural materials and methods. The 50cm stone walls provide excellent insulation and look beautiful too. The traditional crafted stone archways and stair cases add bags of character. Coupled with traditional beamed ceilings, wooden doors and windows, both have a very traditional feel.

The accommodation is equipped with everything you need for a relaxing, comfortable stay. We aim to accommodate all the simple comforts, without the clutter of everyday life. From personal experience, we know that a holiday can be ruined if you don't sleep well, so we opted for a 150cm orthopedic mattress, a selection of wonderful pillows, duvets and throws (all in natural materials) and finally, sumptuous French linen bedding.

The house is located in the middle of an olive grove and yet within walking distance of the town. It is tastefully, high-quality and thoughtfully furnished, a perfect retreat for couples or parents with small children. There's a garden with shaded sitting areas and a rooftop terrace with spectacular views of rugged mountains and sky. Anyone who likes cats and dogs will quickly make new friends - the British hosts live next door and lovingly try to provide as much (or little) animal contact as their guests wish. Host Johanna Heath spoils you with her own eggs, honey, but above all tips and lots of exciting knowledge about the country and its people. Swimming and diving opportunities 10 to 20 minutes away by car. We will be back definitely!

My partner and I stayed in Villa Oreastro in Kefalas for the third time (twice in late summer, once in spring). The description of the hostess Johanna on her website corresponds in every respect to how we experienced the holiday home: stylishly furnished, typical materials of the country used to a very high standard (a lot of natural stone), perfectly equipped kitchen, etc. We found the villa to be very comfortable. Our highlights were the roof terrace with a view of the sunrise and sunset and the view of the LefkaOri,the plants in the garden (a lovely cactus garden), the animals (3 dogs, 6 cats),the quietness (Kefalas is far enough away, no immediate neighbours).Johanna is attentive and at the same time reserved manner - contact is possible but you still have your privacy -  but I can only highly recommend to talk to Johanna, because we owe the most beautiful places on Apokoronas and the best really Greek restaurants to her. She also knows much about the flowers in crete. We will be back - for the fourth time (and again in spring), again for 3 weeks and we are already counting the days 🙂

A beautiful stone house in the mountains of western Crete. The house is furnished to a very high standard and has everything you need for a pleasant stay. We spent 14 days there and felt very comfortable. Alone when you get up in the morning and have a view of the mountains. Added to this is the very nice hostess Johanna. She was very friendly right from the start and was able to give good tips. If you then like animals (currently 3 dogs, 5 cats, chickens and geese) everything is perfect. We look back fondly on our time there.

The Villa Oreastro was key to our wonderful visit on Crete. Johanna was very welcoming and an ongoing resource - meeting us at a local kafeneon and sharing information on the ins and outs of the area. The house is well designed and beautifully laid out for a comfortable stay and greeted us with a kitchen stocked with local Cretan foods and fresh eggs from her chickens. The location was ideal - a peaceful rural setting yet close to the Chania Airport & Venetian port with easy access for excursions to beaches, gorges, Heraklion/ Knossos, traditional restaurants with music and more. The house also served as a base to explore Kefalas, surrounding villages and walking trails rich in folk traditions and ancient sites. We'll miss the view of the White Mountains from the rooftop terrace!

I had the pleasure of staying in this cottage for 2 weeks before Easter. It is private and bigger than anticipated with the essentials needed for everyday life. The hosts are very knowledgeable about the area and activities in close-by villages. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to experience a Greek lifestyle. My experience has left me wanting to return as soon as possible.
