About us

Villa Oreastro - a dream come true

We first came to Crete on a holiday in 2009. We immediately fell in love with the place and the people, and continued to visit every spring and autumn since. In 2013 we tentatively started looking at properties here. In December 2015 we eventually bought our plot of just over 4000sqm, with a small 35sqm stone house, no electricity and 70 olive trees. In 2022 we were offered an adjacent piece of land for sale, so we now have about 7350 sqm of land in total.

At the end of 2016, once we had a building license, we extended the house to make it practical to live in, and we also added a second guest house. All the work was completed at the end of 2017.

We consider ourselves very fortunate to be living our dream in Crete: The place is beautiful. The people are fantastic. The lifestyle is relaxed and uncomplicated and full of surprises!

We have a lovely guest house in which to host family, friends and guests. We designed and furnished the guest house based on what we learnt from our many visits, as somewhere we would love to stay on holiday ourselves.

It's fair to say that we have a bit of a farm going....

We currently have 6 cats (all rescued as kittens): Molly, Tiggy, Ziggy, Max & Toffee, and Bob Cat. We have 3 dogs: Teddy & Sophie (they came with us from the UK) and Daisy (found as a stray puppy)

We have two beehives, and a number of chickens.

We also have a number of fruit trees / bushes, and also grow vegetables. We also harvest our own olives for (very delicious) oil.

We would be happy to share with our guests our ever-growing list of favourite places around the area.
We look forward to seeing you!

The service that we provide

Your home for the duration of your stay

You will receive a warm welcome and lots of useful information to help you enjoy your stay. We can advise on where to eat / drink and places to visit, so you'll be off to a flying start! we also provide 'Discover on Foot' booklets on local walks, compiled by someone with an in-depth knowledge of the area. We can also put you in touch with local individuals who provide guided walks to locations such as Samaria and other hidden treasures of Crete, flower walks and foraging.

Bed linen is changed weekly, towels when required. The house will be clean when you arrive, but we don't provide a cleaning service during your stay. We believe that your space should be private.

Although the house is rustic, it is equipped to a very high standard, but no clutter. In the kitchen you will find everything you need for your stay, but you won't find all the electrical gadgets that you may be used to. This was a deliberate decision. We would like to encourage you to step back from all the modern amenities, and appreciate the basic things in life.

A Good Night's Sleep:

We know very well that an uncomfortable bed can spoil a great holiday. Therefore, we have opted for a 5ft bed with orthopaedic mattress and the finest luxurious french linen bedding - ensuring a comfortable night's sleep. We give you a choice of soft to firm pillows, all from natural materials, and quilts and throws for every season. You might find yourself lingering in bed just a bit longer than you had intended.

Throughout the house, doors and windows are equipped with insect screens, so you can leave these open without the risk of annoying night-time visitors. There is no air conditioning. Instead, you can enjoy the fresh air, capably assisted by beautifully carved wooden ceiling fan.

The bedroom features exposed stone walls, a stone floor and beamed ceiling. French doors open onto the terrace. A wardrobe and chest of drawers provide ample storage for clothing.

Welcome Pack

We like to welcome our guests with a few Cretan essentials. Your exact pack will vary depending on your length of stay. Your pack will typically include olive oil from our own olive grove, honey from our own beehives, eggs from our chickens, fresh bread from a wood oven and more.

We also provide you with your own map of the Apokoronas, identifying the top ten beaches, archaeological sites and places to see.

If you have any special requests, please let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate you.
